¿Como se realiza la interconexion entre carriers de VoIP?

Hasta hace muy pocos años, la interconexión entre grandes carriers nacionales e internacionales se realizaba fundamentalmente con circuitos PDH mediante señalización SS7.

Hoy en dia, el intercambio de tráfico "carrier-class" se sigue realizando de esta manera, pero cada vez más los pequeños carriers y los carriers que necesitan realizar interconexión de bajo coste con carriers de otros países, optan por interconexiones basadas en VoIP.

Esta interconexión aporta:

Una disminución tremenda de los costes de los circuitos, ya que no son necesarios caros circuitos dedicados entre paises (que obligaban siempre a pagar el peaje a los grandes operadores de cada país).

Una oportunidad de negocio muy lucrativa para que cualquier nuevo operador regional pueda competir en costes con operadores incumbentes o con grandes operadores nacidos durante la liberación de los mercados de telecomunicaciones en la decada de los 90.

La posibilidad de que con una mínima infraestructura se pueda operar en varios países.

La aparición de la figura del broker/intermediario que facilita la compra de minutos entre carriers heterogéneos a los largo del globo.

Pero, obviamente, también tiene sus inconvenientes:

La calidad de las llamadas se ve siempre disminuida debido a la utilización de circuitos basadas en Internet, que muchas veces no garantizan la QoS de los canales de voz.

Permite a pseudo-operadores introducirse en nuevos mercados con una calidad muy muy baja. Esta baja calidad lleva a que muchos usuarios acaben desconfiando de la VoIP.
